Chapter 5

1.      The presentation of the tributes seems to be greatly focused on visual presentation and looks — what does this reveal about the belief systems of the Capitol?

This reveals that the capitol only focuses on the beauty of things if they aren’t beautiful they aren’t good. It also means that the first impression means everything to everyone.
2.      Compare and contrast life in the Capitol to life in District 12.

In district 12 people have to hunt or work hard for their own food. In the capitol they get food with a push of a button. District 12 is the poorest district the capitol is super duper rich. In district 12 you have to struggle and you will have a hard life. In the capitol you have everything you want in the push of a button.
3.      What does Cinna ask Katniss and Peeta to do just before they ride out in their chariot? What is the purpose of this gesture?

Cinna asks Peeta and Katniss to hold hands before they went out into the crowd. Cinna wanted them to look like a pair that isn’t trying to kill each other in the arena like if they are united together.
4.      Why is it so hard for Katniss to trust Peeta's kindness?

It’s very hard for Katniss to trust Peeta’s kindness because his kindness could just be tricks and in the arena he might want to kill her when she least expects it.

Quotes

"Don't be so stupid. Peeta is planning to kill you, I remind myself. He is luring you in to make easy prey. The more likeable he is, the more deadly he is." pg.72
"For the first time, I feel a flicker of hope rising up in Me." pg.70
"So I keep holding on, but I can't help feeling strange about the way Cinna has linked us together. It's not really fair to present us as a team and then lock us into the arena to kill each other."  pg71
"I want the audience to recognize you in the arena, says Cinna dreamily.Katniss the girl who was on fire." pg67
